NWS Boston EM Briefing for Strong winds This Evening & Overnight

Good afternoon, Forecast confidence has increased on a line of heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms to impact the region this evening & overnight, accompanied by strong to damaging winds and brief heavy rainfall. As is always the case with thunderstorms, not every city or town will be impacted. Thus strong to damaging winds with these storms will be isolated. However if the line of storms becomes more intense, the probability of wind damage and power outages will increase. These heavy showers and thunderstorms will move across the area from 7 pm to 1 am from west to east. In addition, ahead of these storms, strong southerly winds will impact Rhode Island and central-eastern Massachusetts, including the cities of Boston and Providence. Wind Advisories remain posted for this region for wind gusts up to 50 mph. Please see the attached briefing for details. NWS Boston EM Briefing for Strong Winds Tonight

Good Morning, Little has changed since yesterday afternoon's briefing. We are still expecting strong southerly winds early tonight in Rhode Island and central/eastern Massachusetts where Wind Advisories remain posted for wind gusts as high as 50 MPH. There is more uncertainty as to whether or not these strong wind gusts will occur across northern Connecticut and western Massachusetts. That scenario would become more likely if a line of heavy showers or thunderstorms reaches southern New England. Please see the attached briefing for details. Information about webinar on Dec. 2 regarding upcoming new NWS radar page

Hi NWS-Norton Partners, At the request of our NWS HQ, we are forwarding this information: [image: NWS image] The National Weather Service invites you to join us on *December 2, 2020 from 2pm-3pm eastern* time for a briefing aimed at our partners who would like to learn more about the new webpage for access to NEXRAD radar data from the NWS. The new radar.weather.gov webpage (currently on a 'preview' webpage <https://preview-radar.weather.gov/#/> ) will replace the current page <https://radar.weather.gov/> on or about December 15, 2020. Through Dec. 14, the new webpage will run in parallel with the current one, in order to allow users the necessary time to transition local bookmarks to the new interactive radar webpage. NWS redesigned the new page to improve our radar services to the public and our partners. The upgrade will also move the agency of the soon-to-be-obsolete Adobe FLASH technology, used in the current pages for radar loops. The new webpage will deliver the nation's NEXRAD network in a more flexible geographic information system (GIS) format for easy integration into GIS applications used for situational awareness. It will also provide radar images more frequently and at four times higher resolution than currently provided. And, the new mobile friendly format allows you to monitor the weather while you are on the go.
