Good afternoon, We wanted to give you a heads up about the potential for some wintry weather on Tuesday. This system is not expected to bring significant snow amounts, but icing is a concern. Additionally, being that it could be the first real accumulating system of the winter, we wanted to bring it to your attention. Rain will likely transition to a period of snow from west to east beginning Tuesday morning. Timing of this transition to snow would be around early morning for western MA/CT, reaching eastern MA by mid afternoon. Snow amounts are expected to be light, *generally a coating to an inch of snow is likely*. One concern for interior Massachusetts would be the potential for some icing/freezing rain during the early morning hours; a low probability but a concern we will be evaluating going forward. Good morning, Following is an update on the ongoing strong to damaging wind event taking place across Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. As of 430 AM, the advertised strong cold front was located across central Massachusetts into extreme eastern Connecticut. This front will race eastward and off the coast of eastern Massachusetts between 5-6 AM. Damaging south winds remain possible ahead of the cold front, with a sharp wind shift after the passage of the cold front. After the front clears in entirety, focus will turn toward the strong west wind gusts behind it. *Headlines*: - *High Wind Warnings* for eastern Massachusetts & Rhode Island continues through 6 AM this morning, and for the South Coast, Cape Cod and the Islands until 8 AM. **Note*: *The High Wind Warnings will be replaced with a Wind Advisory to address the strong west wind gusts once the cold front has cleared the coast. This will be in effect until 4 PM today. - *Wind Advisory* for Worcester to Tolland Counties westward until 4 PM today. By this morning, all counties will be in this Wind Advisory. - *Storm Warnings* for Narragansett Bay, Boston Harbor, Cape Cod Bay, and Massachusetts/Ipswich Bays through 6 AM this morning. **Note*:* Storm Warnings will be replaced with Gale Warnings once the cold front has cleared the coast. This will be in effect through Friday. - *Gale Warnings* in effect for the remaining coastal waters through Friday. By this morning, all waters will be in this Gale Warning. *Details*: *Winds:* - *Timing and Peak Gusts:* - Cold front will shift winds from south to west through early this morning across eastern counties. These west winds will remain gusty to strong through the afternoon. - South gusts to 50-60 mph could still be possible through 6-8 AM in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and toward Cape Cod and the Islands. - For the remainder of the morning into the afternoon, strong west wind gusts between 40 to 50 mph is expected. Diminishing trends to gusts are anticipated after 4 PM. - *Impacts:* Scattered tree damage with isolated power outages. - *Uncertainty:* Though lesser overall impact is anticipated in the west wind gusts today, wet ground and partly-leafed trees could fell trees more easily. Good afternoon everyone, Just a quick heads up that we expanded the High Wind Warnings inland to include all of RI, eastern MA and parts of the CT River Valley including Hartford and Springfield. - Strongest winds (direction from the south) will occur between 10 pm and 4 am from west to east - Isolated power outages are expected in the warning area but more extensive wind damage and power outages are possible if temperatures warm to 70 degs or higher tonight, as this will increase the risk of strong winds aloft mixing to the surface - A line of showers and thunderstorms will move across the region tonight from west to east. This line will likely increase the threat for strong to damaging winds Another email will be sent by 5 pm with any additional details/updates. While the wind threat remains the chief concern, a period of heavy rainfall may be enough to produce pockets of poor drainage flooding from clogged storm drains. *Changes with this update:* - *High Wind Watches converted to High Wind Warnings*: for most of Rhode Island and southeast MA up to the I-95 corridor from Providence to Boston, for Thursday night into Friday morning. *Details:* *Winds:* - *Timing and Peak Gusts:* - Strongest winds from the southwest will occur between midnight tonight and 6 am Friday from west to east. - Gusts 40-50 mph in the interior, with 50-60 mph gusts across Rhode Island and eastern MA, including the Cape/Islands. - Another surge surge of strong west wind gusts (up to 50 mph) is expected Friday morning, especially over the higher terrain in interior MA. - *Impacts:* Some tree damage with scattered power outages. Good morning, A strong frontal system is expected to approach our area later tonight into Thursday, producing periods of light rain starting late tonight. However, the period of greatest impact is from later Thursday night into Friday morning, with a period of strong to damaging winds across the South Coast and the Islands, and a period of heavy rain accompanying a cold frontal passage. *Changes with this update:* - *High Wind Watch Issued*: For southern Bristol and Plymouth Counties, Cape Cod and the Islands in Massachusetts, and for Block Island and Newport Counties in Rhode Island. In effect from late Thursday night through Friday morning. - *Gale Watch Issued:* For all coastal and offshore waters. In effect from 7 PM Thursday through 7 PM Friday. *Details:* *Winds:* - *Timing:* Winds increase markedly Thursday evening. For the High Wind Watch area, the period of strongest winds during the pre-dawn hours Friday into mid-Friday morning. Breezy to gusty winds could occur in the interior after the cold front passes in the morning hours Friday. - *Peak Wind Gusts*: Southwest winds between 40-50 mph, up to 60 mph possible in the High Wind Watch area. Elsewhere, peak winds will be in the 30-40 mph range. - *Impacts:* Trees and power lines may be downed, resulting in power outages in the High Wind Watch area. Low pressure will bring a period of steady, at times heavy rain areawide this afternoon into this evening, and a period of gusty winds for southeast MA, Block Island and the outer waters. Minor coastal flooding is also expected for coastal RI mainly this afternoon into the evening. Monday through Wednesday, a period of prolonged onshore winds combined with high astronomical tides may bring a threat of minor coastal flooding for eastern and southern shores. . *Details:* *Rainfall:* - *Timing:* Light rain began early this morning. Period of heaviest rains is midday to late-this evening (before midnight). - *Amounts:* Between a half to 1.5 inches, highest southern counties. - *Impacts:* Minor urban/poor drainage flooding possible from clogged storm drains. - *Uncertainty:* Rumbles of thunder may lead to locally higher rainfall amounts, especially south of I-90. Isolated/limited coverage of poor drainage flooding. *Winds:* - *Timing:* Gusts increase early this afternoon for the Cape and Islands and Block Island; period of strongest gusts between 4-9 PM. - *Peak Gusts:* Up to 50 mph. - *Impacts:* Tree limbs could be blown down and result in a few power outages. - *Uncertainty*: Strongest winds will accompany rain, which could produce pockets of stronger winds to transfer to the surface.
