Good afternoon everyone, We're still finalizing the forecast but we did want to send a short update to the briefing sent this morning to discuss our current thinking. Expect a full briefing with updated graphics to be sent by 5 PM today. *Heat and Humidity Saturday and Sunday* We are not anticipating any significant changes to the heat and humidity forecast for the weekend to what was briefed this morning. The first occurrence of true mid-summer heat and humidity arrives Saturday and continues into Sunday. Heat Advisories remain in effect for areas away from the coastlines and away from the Berkshires. Air temperatures in the 90s with heat indices between 95 and 102 degrees. *Confidence in the heat forecast is high*. *Strong to Severe Storms Possible Sunday Afternoon* Widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon, especially across northern & western CT into western & central MA. Localized straight line wind damage and hail would be the greatest risks in any strong to severe storms which develop. Attached is the Severe Thunderstorm Outlook for Sunday from the Storm Prediction Center. *Confidence in the thunderstorm forecast is moderate*. The overall coverage of thunderstorms is the largest question mark. Thank You! Hi everyone, Please find attached an updated one pager briefing on significant early season summer heat and humidity this weekend along with heat index and forecast high temperature graphics. Heat index values are expected to be between 95-102F. In addition, low temperatures overnight Saturday will likely not fall below 70F in urban population centers. *What has changed: *Given increased confidence, Heat Advisories have been issued for most areas away from the immediate coast from Sat 8 AM to Sun 8 PM. Good afternoon, Please find attached an updated one-page briefing and supporting graphics regarding the first occurrence of summer heat and humidity expected away from the coastline Saturday and Sunday. Forecast remains unchanged from the briefing sent Thursday morning. Heat indices are forecast to reach into the mid to upper 90s, with a lower chance for values at or over 100 degrees. In addition, little relief at night, especially urban areas with lows Saturday night not falling below 70F. Heat-related headlines will likely be needed for Saturday and Sunday. Good Afternoon, Attached is a briefing regarding the potential for strong to severe storms Monday afternoon and evening; generally between 5 and 9 pm. The greatest threats associated with these possible storms will be strong wind gusts and localized poor drainage and street flooding, primarily across the CT River Valley in western MA and central CT. The Storm Prediction Center has placed these areas in a SLIGHT risk for severe weather. Storms are anticipated to weaken as they move east. The risk for severe weather east of the CT river valley decreases significantly as any storms that do form will likely weaken after sunset. Good afternoon, Find attached our latest briefing and supporting graphics on a storm system expected to bring strong winds, wind-driven heavy rains, accumulating snow at elevations above 1500 ft, and coastal flooding. *Weather Headline Changes Since Last Full Briefing: * - *Coastal Flood Warning* in effect for coastal Fairfield County in southern CT. - *Coastal Flood Advisory* for coastal New Haven County in southern CT. - *Coastal Flood Statement* for minor splashover in effect for eastern MA from South Shore to the North Shore. - *Wind Advisory* for Berkshire County in western MA. *Wind Gusts, Rain, Snow Accumulation Changes Since Last Full Briefing:* - Wind gusts adjusted upward slightly. - Snow accumulations across the high terrain adjusted downward slightly. We still anticipate that strong winds and heavy rain will be the main impacts felt by most people during this event. Coastal flooding risks appear greatest in southern CT closer to high tide, with minor splashover for vulnerable shoreline roads in eastern MA. Up to 4 inches of wet snow may coat trees across the Berkshires. Good early afternoon, We are still reviewing data and incoming forecast guidance, and as such the forecast is not finalized as yet. However we did want to provide you with an update regarding the storm system expected to affect Southern New England later tonight into Tuesday morning. The forecast regarding strong winds and heavy rain looks to be similar to what was briefed early this morning. Strong winds and heavy rain appear likely to pose the greatest overall impact from this storm system. Regarding the accumulating higher-elevation snow forecast: The storm's track looks to be adjusting slightly further westward. As this would translate to a milder overall outcome, we may be looking at lowering snow amounts slightly for elevations above 1500 ft. On the coastal flooding forecast: we expect a peak storm surge of around 2 ft to occur Tuesday morning, closer to low tide. At morning high tide, set to be around 130 AM Tuesday, a surge of 0.5-1 ft is anticipated. This would mean instances of minor splashover especially from Scituate to the North Shore. Erosion potential does not look to be a major issue as waves do not appear to be built up enough around the time of high tide. We are still considering coastal flood headlines for the Tuesday morning high tide to address the splashover risk. Expect a full briefing update with graphics by 500 PM today, shortly after the forecast is finalized. Thank You! This will be for up to 4 inches of heavy wet snowfall *at elevations above 1500 feet. * - High wind watch upgraded to high wind warning for Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties. - Wind advisory in effect for Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth, Bristol counties in MA and Block Island, Washington, and Newport counties in RI. There also remains a threat for splashover/minor coastal flooding overnight. No coastal flood headlines are active at this time, but we will revisit the need for any potential coastal flood headlines this afternoon.
