Good afternoon. This is our latest update on the potential for weather related hazards that will affect the region from late tonight through early Monday morning. Low pressure will develop off the New Jersey coast tonigh. This low will track across south coastal New England Sunday, then push to the Gulf of Maine Sunday evening. *Changes with this update:* - *Winter Weather Advisory for the east slopes of the Berkshires and higher terrain of the Worcester Hills:* *In effect from 2 AM Sunday through 8 AM Sunday*. - *Wind Advisory for Cape Ann, eastern Plymouth county, Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard: In effect from 5 PM Sunday to 4 AM Monday.* - *Gale Warnings for the Coastal Waters, *except Boston Harbor and Narragansett Bay*: In effect from 9 AM Sunday through 6 AM Monday.* - *Small Craft Advisories for Boston Harbor and Narragansett Bay:* *In effect from 7 AM Sunday through 6 AM Monday*. *DETAILS*: *Light Icing and Light Snow across portions of interior Massachusetts*: *Locations*: The high terrain of the Worcester Hills and the east slopes of the Berkshires. *Timing:* The precipitation will start as light freezing rain during the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning, changing to rain by mid morning. Expect the rain to change back to light snow from mid to late afternoon Sunday, then ending before midnight. *Expected Amounts:* A light glaze of ice (up to 1/10"), with up to 2 inches of snow at the highest elevations of western Franklin and western Hampshire counties. *Impact*: Slippery travel. *Splashover: Sunday Morning High Tide* *Locations*: Eastern Massachusetts coast including Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket *Timing:* Sunday morning high tide (5:41 AM at Providence, 8:45 AM at Boston, and 9:46 AM on Nantucket) *Storm Surge:* 1.0 to 1.5 feet *Impact*: Some vulnerable shoreline roads, such as Morrissey Boulevard, may experience splashover around high tide. Significant impacts are not anticipated. *Splashover: Sunday Evening High Tide* Timing: 9:17 PM at Boston and 10:24 PM on Nantucket Although the wind will be strong during the time of the Sunday evening high tide, winds will be from the northwest and that tide will be astronomically lower. Good morning, Following is an update on potential weather-related hazards from an area of low pressure that is expected to move from the mid-Atlantic through southeastern Massachusetts. This system is expected to produce a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow across the Berkshires into northern Worcester County Sunday, with mainly rain elsewhere in Southern New England. It will also bring a period of gusty winds Sunday night to the coastal waters, along with the potential for minor coastal flooding in parts of eastern Massachusetts during Sunday's high tides. *Changes with this update:* - Gale Watch Issued [Sunday into Sunday Night]: Coastal and offshore waters. - *Updated Snow and Ice Accumulations*. *Note:* Portions of the Berkshires into northern Worcester County *may* need winter weather advisories for parts of Sunday in forthcoming updates. Details below: *Interior Light Icing and Light Snow (See Attached Images):* *Locations*: Mainly the northern Worcester Hills and the Berkshires. *Timing:* Begins as light freezing rain into the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning, changing to rain by late morning or early afternoon. This will mainly affect the marine community. *Marine Impacts: Gale Force Winds* *Locations*: Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters *Timing:* Onset of Gales between 4 and 7 PM, ending between 4 and 8 AM Saturday. *Wind Gusts:* W 30 to 40 knots, peaking between 8 PM and 2 AM. *Seas:* 4 to 7 feet on the inner bays and sounds; 7 to 11 ft offshore. *Impact:* Hazardous conditions for mariners. *Uncertainty:* High confidence. *Saturday Night and Sunday:* Low pressure is expected to track near Nantucket. As rain overspreads the region Saturday night, it will be cold enough for a wintry mix across parts of the interior with the potential for light icing and impacts to travel. Good morning everyone, We are still expecting light ice accretions resulting in slick untreated roads for areas west and northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor. Increasing northeast winds resulting in minor wind damage impact for Cape Cod and the Islands, and a period of minor coastal flooding for the afternoon high tide in eastern MA also remain expected. Wind and Coastal Flood Advisories were unchanged with this update. While the Winter Weather Advisory for light icing was unchanged - it was extended into the pre-dawn hours Tuesday for the eastern slopes of the Berkshires, as cold rain changes back to wet snow and sleet tonight with continued wintry weather impacts for these locations. *Changes from Sunday's briefings: * - *Winter Weather Advisory Extended In Time [*Now Ends 6 AM Tuesday]: For the eastern slopes of the Berkshires - western Franklin and western Hampshire Counties in MA. - Storm total ice amounts reduced, but similar impact anticipated. Details below: *Interior Light Icing:* *Locations*: West/northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor. *Timing:* Spotty freezing drizzle and/or very light freezing rain developing around daybreak. Changeover to rain anticipated in most areas later in the morning. *Amounts*: Trace amounts to a couple hundredths of ice in the Winter Weather Advisory area - resulting in a light, thin glaze of ice. *Impact*: Slick roads impacting this morning's commute. *Confidence:* High. Coverage of freezing drizzle and light freezing rain will be spotty/patchy. *Changeover to Wet Snow Tonight:* *Locations*: Mainly the eastern slopes of the Berkshires, but also into the northern Worcester hills. *Timing:* Before midnight tonight into early Tuesday morning. *Amounts*: Up to an inch of combined snow/sleet accumulation, with additional trace ice amounts. *Impact*: Slick roads, mainly at elevation. *Confidence:* High. Any light freezing rain/freezing drizzle to be brief. *Strong Winds:* *Locations*: Dukes and Nantucket Counties into Block Island, and Cape Cod. *Timing:* 6 AM Monday through early Monday evening. *Sustained Wind:* NE 25 to 35 mph. *Wind Gusts:* NE 35 to 45 mph with a few gusts up to 50 mph possible. *Impact*: Minor damage such as downed tree limbs. Perhaps Isolated power outages. *Confidence:* High. *Marine Impacts:* *Locations*: Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters *Timing:* Tonight and Monday *Wind Gusts:* NE 35 to 45 kt. *Seas:* 4 to 9 ft on the inner bays and sounds; 13 to 17 ft offshore. *Confidence:* High. *Minor Coastal Flooding:* *Locations*: Eastern Massachusetts coast *Timing:* Monday afternoon high tide (3:10 PM at Boston and 4:17 PM on Nantucket) *Storm Surge:* 1.5 to 2.0 feet *Inundation:* Less than 1 foot above ground level *Impact*: Some vulnerable shoreline roads may become temporarily impassable around high tide. NWS Boston 11/17 Afternoon Briefing: Coastal Storm Impacts Tonight Into Monday

Good afternoon everyone, We did expand the winter weather advisory to include all of our area just to the northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor. While some spotty freezing drizzle is possible this evening, there is a higher risk for pockets of light freezing rain/freezing drizzle after midnight and into Monday morning. Biggest concern is the Monday morning commute where untreated roads may be icy. Good morning everyone, Little significant changes to forecast expectations regarding a coastal storm which looks to pass southeast of Nantucket Monday. This coastal storm will bring the potential for light icing across parts of the interior, strong winds near the coast, and minor coastal flooding to eastern Massachusetts on Monday. *Changes from yesterday afternoon's briefing: * - *Winter Weather Advisory Issued[*Midnight Thru Noon Monday]: Franklin, Hampshire, Worcester and Middlesex Counties in MA due to light ice accretions. *Note:* Expansion of the Winter Weather Advisory *may* be needed in later updates into Hampshire, Hartford, Tolland Counties in western MA and northern CT, and into western Essex County in eastern MA. - *Wind Advisory Issued*[1 AM Thru 5 PM Monday]: Dukes and Nantucket Counties in MA and Block Island in RI for strong northeast winds. *Note:* Expansion of the Wind Advisory *may* be needed in later updates for Cape Cod. - *Coastal Flood Advisory Issued*[2 PM to 5 PM Monday]: Eastern MA coast, Barnstable and Nantucket Counties for minor coastal flooding at/around the Monday afternoon high tide.
