Good morning everyone, We've attached our latest rainfall forecast today through Saturday. Forecast rainfall amounts have increased since our last update, but the greatest potential for heavy rain and flooding is still across the New York City area into western Connecticut. The risk is still greatest just outside of the NWS Boston forecast area, where Flood Watches are currently in effect (see attached graphic). It is not out of the question that Flood Watches may be needed in future updates across the Hartford and Springfield areas if the potential for heavy rain and flooding increases. Good afternoon everyone, Right now it looks like the greatest potential for heavy rain and flooding Friday into Saturday will be from the New York City area into western Connecticut, which is just to the west of the NWS Boston forecast area. As a result, we are not planning to issue any Flood Watches for our forecast area this afternoon, but it's possible that Flood Watches may be issued on Friday, especially for the Hartford and Springfield areas, if the potential for heavy rain and flooding increases. However, with three day rainfall totals only on the order of 1 to 3 inches, significant flooding is not expected. [2023.09.21 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Long Duration Rain Event This Weekend into Early Next Week

Good afternoon, An area of low pressure over the Carolina coast is forecast to move northward this weekend and then move offshore early next week. This system is forecast to bring a period of steady rain to Southern New England this weekend into early next week. The greatest impact from this weather system is from heavy rain. We do not anticipate the torrential kind of rain that was experienced in several heavy rain events this summer - but rather a long-duration, steady rain which adds up over time. Even so, as rain falls and adds up, instances of street flooding as well as rises on mainstem rivers and creeks are still possible. At this time, we expect rain to fall heavy at times on Saturday, with a lighter to moderate rain on Sunday and Monday. Exact rain amounts and how long rain may last are still uncertain and subject to further adjustments. We've attached a one-page briefing, the Excessive Rain Outlook from the Weather Prediction Center for Saturday, as well as our current best estimate for rain totals Saturday and Sunday. Good morning everyone! Just a quick update that we have expanded the Flood Watch further west into this evening. It now includes the Hartford, Springfield, and Worcester Metro areas. Periods of heavy rain are anticipated this afternoon into early this evening. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible in heavier bands, which may coincide with the evening rush hour and result in pockets of flooding. Good afternoon, We would like to draw your attention to the potential for localized urban and small stream flooding on Monday, particularly in light of the recent heavy rainfall over the past two weeks. While we are not currently anticipating widespread flooding, it is important to acknowledge the possibility of localized flooding, particularly in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. As of now, there are no Flood Watches in effect, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely. If our confidence in this forecast increases, it may become necessary to issue a watch. Our forecasts indicate rainfall amounts ranging between 1" and 2", with the potential for locally higher amounts of 3" +. Rainfall rates could exceed 1" per hour. Notably, the heaviest rainfall is expected to coincide with the Monday evening commute. Good morning, The tropical storm warnings for coastal MA, Cape Cod, and the Islands have been dropped. Winds and wind gusts are now sub Tropical Storm force and will continue to gradually weaken this afternoon and evening. Winds will remain gusty for most of the day with gusts up to 35 mph expected near the coast. Please see the attached wind gust forecast loop for details on when we expect the gusty winds to diminish. Also, a coastal flood advisory is in effect for the north facing side of Cape Cod and Nantucket for the afternoon high tide today. Good evening everyone, Please find attached our latest briefing on Hurricane Lee. The forecast is largely unchanged, however our forecast confidence has increased that the higher risk for coastal flooding, with pockets of moderate flooding, is during the late Friday night/early Saturday morning high tide. While coastal flooding is possible during the Saturday afternoon high tide cycle, inundation and beach erosion should be more in the minor category. For potential power restoration (bucket trucks), wind gusts will likely subside below 35 mph after sunset Saturday across the entire region.
