NWS Boston EM Briefing: Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Possible Tuesday Night Into Wednesday

Good afternoon, all: While we are still dealing with the lingering effects of today's storm, we do need to highlight a storm expected sometime Tuesday night into Wednesday. This storm has the potential to bring strong gusty winds of 50-70 mph, and several inches of rainfall. Details will come into better focus over the next couple of days. The attached image, also included in the briefing, is the probability of 2+ inches of rainfall within 24 hours, ending 7 PM Wednesday, from our National Blend of Models ensemble system. Since our last update we've downgraded the Boston area and southern Connecticut to a Winter Weather Advisory from a Winter Storm Warning. Our storm total forecast snowfall amounts have been reduced in our advisory areas in the latest update. We have also included a forecast temperature loop to highlight the flash freeze risk later today. The winter storm watch has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for the locations generally north and west of the I-95 corridor. The winter storm watch for locations along and east of I-95 remains in effect. Expect an updated briefing package no later than 6AM tomorrow morning. Good evening, Please find attached an updated briefing package regarding winter storm potential Saturday night into Sunday. Some updates since our last briefing. - Winter Storm Watch has been put into effect for locations in southern New England generally north and west of the I-95 corridor. - Increasing confidence for a winter storm to produce moderate to major impacts west of I-95 with 8 to 12 inches of snow possible - Considerable uncertainty remains with respect to snow accumulations east of I-95 including the cities of Boston and Providence The watch area may be expanded south and east if confidence in impacts over these locations grows.
