Good morning, We wanted to give everyone a heads up on the potential for locally heavy rainfall today which may lead to a risk of localized urban and poor drainage flooding. Details follow below. *What:* - Localized heavy rainfall with amounts of 2+ inches in a 6 hour period - Urban and poor drainage flooding possible if these amounts are realized *Where:* - The best chance will be south of the Mass Pike, particularly across eastern CT, RI and portions of southeast MA. *When:* - Mainly this afternoon into early evening - Heavy rainfall may impact the afternoon commute *Uncertainty:* - There is uncertainty with respect to where the axis of heavy rainfall will set up. The location may still shift to the north or south We have attached graphics showing our expected rainfall, worst case scenario rainfall, and the probability of greater than 2 inches of rainfall. Rain will push into the region tonight, which will fall heavily at times, then should taper off by midday Tuesday. - First area of rain should move across this evening until around 2 AM Tuesday, with isolated thunderstorms - Another area of rain will push across Tuesday morning ahead of an approaching cold front - Total rainfall will be from 0.5 to 1.5 inches - Rain will fall heavily at times, with local amounts possibly up to 2 to 3 inches - Localized urban and poor drainage flooding is also possible Attached please find the graphics with the forecast rainfall amounts, along with the potential high and low end amounts. Good morning, There is the threat of tropical downpours this evening which could contribute to localized flooding. - Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches in roughly a 3 to 6 hour window are possible. - Rainfall developing around 8 pm, the heaviest occurring around 10 pm to 2 am, concluding around 4 am. Update on Strong Winds This Afternoon and Evening

Good Morning Everyone, We have increased the forecast wind gusts for this afternoon and this evening near the coast. As a result, the following changes have been made: - *Wind Advisory* expanded to include coastal Plymouth County and Martha's Vineyard. - *Storm Warning* issued for Nantucket Sound and the outer coastal waters from Provincetown to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Confidence remains high that a wind shift to the northeast will occur between 1 PM and 5 PM, accompanied by a burst of strong winds and a temperature drop into the 50s over the coastal waters and from coastal Plymouth County to Cape Cod and the Islands. *Since this is the start of the holiday weekend, many recreational boaters may be caught off guard by the sudden increase in wind gusts and rapidly building seas.* Here are the details: *Coastal Plymouth County, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket:* - A Wind Advisory is in effect until 9 PM. - Wind gusts of up to 50 mph expected, especially between 3 and 7 PM. - Minor wind damage, such as a few downed branches, may occur. *Coastal Waters:* - Storm Warnings issued for Nantucket Sound and the outer coastal waters from Provincetown to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Gusts of 45 to 50 knots are expected, especially between 3 and 7 PM. Gusts will fall below Gale Force after 9 PM. - Gale Warnings remain posted for most of the Massachusetts and Rhode island coastal waters through early tonight. Wind gusts of up to 40 knots are expected. - A rapid wind shift to the northeast and burst of strong wind gusts will first occur around 1 PM off Cape Ann and will reach the waters adjacent to Cape Cod and the Islands between 3 PM and 5 PM. Good Morning Everyone, We have high confidence that a wind shift from the northwest to the northeast will occur between 1 PM and 5 PM and will be accompanied by a burst of strong winds and a temperature drop into the 50s over the coastal waters and on Cape Cod and Nantucket. Here are the details: *Cape Cod and Nantucket:* - A Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 PM to 9 PM. - Minor wind damage, such as a few downed branches, may occur. *Coastal Waters:* - Gale Warnings have been expanded to include most of the Massachusetts and Rhode island coastal waters through early tonight. - A rapid wind shift to the northeast and burst of 40 to 45 knot wind gusts will first occur around 1 PM off Cape Ann and will reach the waters adjacent to Cape Cod and the Islands between 3 PM and 6 PM. - This has the potential to catch mariners off guard, especially recreational boaters.
