Good afternoon, all: *What Remains the Same*: - Winter Weather Advisory for the Berkshires, including the east slopes - Snow and sleet accumulation before a transition to freezing rain, then rain - A few inches of snow and sleet may accumulate before the transition to freezing rain and rain - - up to a few hundredths inch of ice accretion is possible *What Will Be Changing:* - Special Weather Statement will be issued for the threat of freezing rain - Not as confident freezing rain will be widespread - Risk of freezing rain across central and western Massachusetts, as well as northern Connecticut - Especially at elevations of 1,000 ft or higher - Up to a few hundredths inch of ice accretion is possible A preliminary ice accumulation map is attached. Light Snow/Ice potential for Tonight in the High Terrain

Good morning, This is an update on the potential for some light snow/ice accretion tonight in the high terrain. *There are no major changes to the previous forecast.* *WHAT/WHERE: * - Light wintry mix (snow/sleet/freezing rain) potential tonight in the high terrain of the Worcester Hills and the east slopes of the Berkshires. Ice accretion of a trace to less than one tenth of an inch possible. *WHEN: * - Precipitation overspreads the region from west to east on this evening between 5 and 9 pm. Rain is expected for most of Southern New England, but some light snow/sleet/freezing rain will be possible in the high terrain of the Worcester Hills and east slopes of the Berkshires. *POTENTIAL IMPACTS: * - Most ice accretion will occur on trees, but a few slippery spots are possible at elevations over 1000 feet and particularly near 1500 feet. - Ice accretion amounts will not be high enough to result in any power outages. - Precipitation will change to rain overnight in all locations. Temperatures will rise well into the 50s and 60s by Sunday afternoon. Hi everyone This is just a quick heads up email on the potential for some light ice accretion Friday night in the high terrain. We will attach an approximate radar simulation, which depicts an approximate timing and precipitation types and also include a brief outline in this email. *WHAT/WHERE: * - Light freezing rain potential Friday night in the high terrain of the Worcester Hills and the east slopes of the Berkshires. Ice accretion of a trace to one tenth of an inch possible. *WHEN: * - Precipitation overspreads the region from west to east on Friday evening roughly between 5 and 9 pm. Rain is expected for most of the region, but some light freezing rain will be possible in the high terrain of the Worcester Hills and east slopes of the Berkshires. *POTENTIAL IMPACTS: * - Most ice accretion will occur on trees, but a few slippery spots are possible at elevations over 1000 feet and particularly near 1500 feet. - Ice accretion amounts will not be high enough to result in any power outages. - Precipitation will change to rain toward daybreak Saturday in all locations. Good morning. A strong coastal storm is passing well offshore of Nantucket. This spread rain across Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, while the Central Hills (mainly Worcester County) saw the rain change to snow. - *Strong to damaging winds ... * - North-Northeast clipping southeast New England with gusts up as high as 50 mph, especially for Nantucket. - Westerly winds increase this afternoon and evening with gusts as high as 55 mph, especially across the high terrain of Massachusetts. - Wind Advisories continue over Nantucket until 1 PM and over Massachusetts along and north of the Mass Pike from 2 pm to 9 pm. *The Wind Advisory has been EXPANDED* to include Hartford, Tolland, Windham Counties in Northern Connecticut...Providence County in Northern Rhode Island, and Northern Bristol County/Western Plymouth County in Southeast Massachusetts. - *Wet snow ... * - We expect wet snow will fall over the Central Hills of northeast CT, northwest RI, and central MA. - Greatest accumulations are likely over the higher elevations in and around the Worcester-metro area and points northward towards the border - A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Worcester and northern Middlesex County MA through 8 AM for accumulation from a coating to around an inch. - This may bring slippery travel during the morning rush hour. - Most of the snow is likely to melt and disappear by 10 am. Good afternoon, Below you will find the latest details as to the hazards posed with a coastal storm clipping eastern New England overnight into Wednesday morning, and tinder-dry conditions along with blustery westerly winds for Wednesday posing an elevated fire weather risk. Attached are forecast images, including worst-case, with respect to hazards associated with the coastal storm. Should you have any questions, comments and/or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. - *Strong coastal storm clipping eastern New England*. - A strong coast storm will clip eastern New England overnight into into Wednesday morning with associated hazards noted below. - *Strong to damaging winds ... * - North-Northeast winds increasing towards Wednesday morning, the strongest clipping southeast New England with gusts up as high as 50 mph, especially for Nantucket. - Becoming westerly midday Wednesday and continuing overnight, gusts over much of Southern New England will be up as high as 55 mph, especially across the high terrain of Massachusetts. - WIND ADVISORIES posted for Nantucket (4 am to 1 pm Wednesday) and all of Massachusetts except the southeast, Cape and Martha's Vineyard (2 pm to 9 pm Wednesday). - *Locally heavy rain ...* - Especially for the Cape and Islands, rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are forecast. Worst case scenario, rainfall amounts could exceed 3 inches coming close to 3.5 inches. - Higher confidence for the threat of poor drainage flooding for the Cape and Islands, however should worse-case rainfall amounts occur, there is a threat to Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. - *Wet snow ... * - We expect wet snow to develop around midnight and continue into the early morning hours on Wednesday over a good chunk of southern New England that includes northern CT, northern RI, central and eastern MA. - Greatest accumulations are likely over the higher elevations in and around the Worcester-metro area and points northward towards the border - WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES posted for Worcester and northern Middlesex County MA for around 2 to 3 inches of snow (1 am to 8 am Wednesday). - Worst-case scenario of 4 to 5 inch amounts. - Most of the snow is likely to melt and disappear by 10 am. - *Gale force winds ...* - A period of northeasterly gale force winds are forecast to develop shortly after midnight Wednesday continuing into Wednesday morning. - As the coastal storm passes around midday, will see westerly gales develop that will continue into Wednesday evening. - GALE WARNINGS posted for all waters (2 am to 8 pm Wednesday). - Maximum wave heights of 12 to 15 feet are forecast, the height of which will occur late Wednesday into Wednesday evening. - There are no coastal flooding concerns. - *Fire Weather concerns for Western New England*. - An elevated fire risk will be in place for Wednesday for areas of Massachusetts within and west of the Connecticut and Pioneer River Valleys. - Altogether, there is little to no snowpack, as well as forecast precipitation associated with a coastal storm impacting the eastern half of New England for the aforementioned region. - Forecast midday to afternoon relative humidity will be as low as 25 to 30 percent as strong, dry westerly winds are expected to be sustained around 20 mph with gusts around 35 to 45 mph. - The main concern is for areas of grass, shrub and dried leaf litter fuel types which could yield dangerous fire behavior with the predicted dry and windy conditions. Good morning, A storm moves up the coast from the Carolinas today, passing southeast of Nantucket Wednesday morning. Potential hazards : - *Strong winds. * Northeast winds will increase after midnight tonight, with gusts to 45 mph by daybreak Wednesday. Winds will shift from the northwest Wednesday morning and then diminish by midday. Areas most likely to be affected will be Nantucket and Cape Cod. - *Locally heavy rain.* Rainfall amounts of one-half inch to one and one-half inches will fall on Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This will take place from around midnight to 9 AM Wednesday. Poorly draining locations in this area may experience brief flooding. - *Wet snow.* Rain may cool the air enough to generate a period of wet snow in the hills of Central Massachusetts, Northwest Rhode Island, and Northeast Connecticut. The best chance for this will be from midnight to 9 AM Wednesday. Where snow occurs, it may accumulate a coating up to 2 inches with accumulations most likely on non-paved surfaces. The snow will taper off Saturday morning. Good afternoon, This is a follow-up to our morning e-mail. We continue to monitor a developing coastal storm which will likely impact Southern New England in some capacity beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing into early Friday. Note that there is a fair amount of uncertainty in details. *Changes:* - Strong northwest wind gusts to 45 mph will trail the storm center late Friday into Saturday. Gale headlines may be needed on the waters. *What:* - Rain, with a risk for some wet snow mixing in. - Periods of heavy rainfall rates with a low risk for brief heavy snowfall rates if it occurs. - Risk for at least minor coastal flooding. - Strong Northwest wind gusts to 40-45 mph starting late Friday through Saturday evening. *When:* - Mainly rain beginning in Western MA and Northern CT Thursday afternoon and in the I-95 corridor during the evening rush hour. - If a change to snow occurs, it would likely be during the overnight hours Thursday night. - Coastal flood risk for Thursday night, and Friday mid day high tides, mainly for east coastal Massachusetts. *When we will know more/Uncertainty:* - There is uncertainty as to whether a change to wet snow will ultimately occur, and if so, where exactly the best chances are. - Strength of the low pressure will ultimately determine the risk for coastal flooding. - We will continue to monitor over the next 36-60 hours and update as necessary as the potential impacts become better defined.
