Good morning, Outlined below are potential weather hazards for the coming week. The details may shift a little during the week, but we have confidence that they will occur. Both weather events may require headlines to be issued. *1.) Remnants of Barry.* *What ...* Heavy downpours are possible from late Wednesday through Thursday, as the remnants of Hurricane Barry pass south of Southern New England. Along with the downpours, scattered thunderstorms will occur. Heavy downpours may cause flooding of poor-drainage areas. *Where ... *All areas of Southern New England could be affected. At this time, the best chance of the downpours will be across Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Southeast Massachusetts. *When ... *Initial showers will arrive in Western Massachusetts and Adjacent Connecticut Wednesday morning. The heaviest showers and thunderstorms will take place between 6 PM Wednesday evening and 6 PM Thursday evening. *Forecast Uncertainty ... *Initial thunderstorms Wednesday may favor Northern Massachusetts, as a cold front moves south. The track of the remnants will determine the location of the heaviest rain. Showers and thunderstorms will not cover every square acre of the region; this means one town could be impacted by torrential rainfall and localized flooding while a neighboring town would have very little to no impact. *2.) Weekend heat and humidity* *What ...* Hot and humid weather will move into Southern New England behind the remnants of Hurricane Barry. Temperatures will reach the 90s each day, with some places reaching 100F on Saturday. Dew points will be 70 to 75 during this time. This means heat index values will be 95F to 103F on Friday and Sunday, and 100F to 107F on Saturday. *Where ...* All areas of Southern New England away from the immediate coastline could be affected. *When ... *Highest values will be during the afternoon and evening of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Saturday will be the hottest day, with appreciable heat and humidity on Friday and Sunday as well. A warning or advisory may be needed* for one or all of these days.* *Forecast Uncertainty ...* Temperatures and dew points for these days may shift higher or lower than the forecast, which would change the heat index values higher or lower. Good morning everyone, Outlined below are potential weather hazards this afternoon and evening. *What ...* Potential severe thunderstorms with torrential downpours, localized flooding, and strong winds are possible. Also, excessive heat and humidity is expected this afternoon with heat indices approaching or exceeding 100 degrees, thus a Heat Advisory has been posted for a portion of the area. *Where ... *For severe thunderstorms, all of Connecticut into northern Rhode Island and all of northern Massachusetts including the city of Boston. The risk of strong storms is lower across the south coast of MA and RI. A heat advisory has been posted for northeast Massachusetts including Metro-West. *When ... *The risk for potential severe thunderstorms exist between 1 pm and 10 pm, however the greatest risk is between 4 pm and 8 pm. Heat indices approaching or exceeding 100 degrees will occur between 1 pm and 5 pm today. *Forecast Uncertainty ... *areal coverage of strong thunderstorms is not quite clear. Current thinking is storms will be scattered, meaning one town can be impacted by torrential rainfall and localized flooding while a neighboring town has very little to no impact. The threat for strong storms appears to be highest across CT, into northern RI and across all of northern MA including the city of Boston. As for heat indices, depending on the amount of cloud cover today, the combination of very warm temperatures and tropical humidity, heat indices will likely approach or exceed 100 degrees. Good afternoon, Thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds are possible Saturday afternoon and evening. WHEN: - Saturday, from roughly Noon to 10 PM. WHERE: - All of Southern New England is at risk. Highest chance is in Northern CT as well as Western and Central MA. POTENTIAL IMPACTS: - Thunderstorms may produce downpours of more than 1 inch per hour. This may cause local street flooding as well as flooding of poor drainage areas. - Locally strong or damaging wind gusts from thunderstorms are possible. - Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning will accompany all thunderstorms, and may be a risk to anyone engaging in outdoor activities. Good morning, There are no changes since yesterday's briefing. The threat for strong to severe thunderstorms continues today. *WHAT/WHEN:* - Scattered strong to perhaps severe thunderstorms expected from mid to late morning into the afternoon. *WHERE:* - All of southern New England is at risk, but the greatest risk is across central and eastern MA as well as Rhode Island. *POTENTIAL IMPACTS:* - Hail is the main threat. Some large hail exceeding the size of a quarter is possible. - Locally strong to perhaps damaging wind gusts are a secondary concern which may bring down tree limbs/branches and small trees. - Localized heavy rainfall producing 1-2 inches in a short time will bring the risk of localized street flooding. - Dangerous cloud to ground lightning will pose a risk to those with outdoor activities, including mariners and beach goers. Good evening everyone The threat for additional strong thunderstorms will be winding down this evening. However, another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected on Sunday and we have included a brief outline and graphic to this email. *WHAT/WHEN:* - Scattered strong to perhaps severe thunderstorms expected from mid to late Sunday morning into Sunday afternoon. *WHERE:* *- *All of southern New England is at risk, especially central and eastern MA as well as Rhode Island. *POTENTIAL IMPACTS:* - Hail is the main threat with Sunday's thunderstorms. Some hail may become large and reach or exceed the size of a quarter. - Any thunderstorm will be capable of producing 1+ inches of rain in a short period of time. This will bring the potential for localized street flooding. - Locally strong to perhaps damaging wind gusts are a secondary concern. - Dangerous cloud to ground lightning will pose a risk to those with outdoor activities, including mariners and beachgoers. Attached is the latest outlook from The Storm Prediction Center.
