Good morning everyone, Attached is the latest one-pager on the potential for scattered severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with the main risk northwest of the I-95 corridor. The main severe weather threat will be locally damaging wind gusts with a secondary concern of hail. In addition, torrential rain with any thunderstorms may result in urban street flooding...which may impact part of the late day commute. Also, the potential for excessive heat and humidity continues next week. This should begin next Tuesday with the heat and humidity peaking in the Wednesday through Friday time frame. While it is a long way off...the potential for heat indices of 95-104 degrees are possible at times. It will also remain quite warm and muggy at night...thus, not much relief, so that will also be a concern. In addition to the one-pager, also attached are enlarged images of the Severe Weather Outlook for later today and the probability of temperatures exceeding 100 degrees next Wed, Thu and Fri. A more widespread round of less than an inch of rain may be accompanied by heavier downpours with localized higher amounts which could cause urban and poor drainage flood issues. [2024.05.15 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing -- Low Risk of Flooding Overnight into Thursday

Good afternoon everyone We wanted to make everyone aware that there is a low risk of flooding overnight into Thursday across CT & RI. A widespread 1-2 inches of rain to the south of the Massachusetts turnpike tonight into Thursday...before the rain tapers off Thursday afternoon and evening. The most likely outcome is just typical nuisance poor drainage street flooding overnight into the Thursday morning commute. That being said....there is a low probability that a narrow swath of 3-5" of rain falls within a 6 hour period across CT & RI overnight into Thursday morning. While this is a low risk...if it were to occur more significant urban as well as some small stream flooding would be possible in CT and RI. We have put together a one-pager and also included the current probabilities of exceeding 2 and 3 inch rainfall amounts. No additional briefings are planned at this time. Good afternoon partners, We wanted to send everyone a reminder that The Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) page will be decommissioned on Tuesday May 28th. AHPS has been replaced by the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS), which became operational on March 27th of this year. After May 28th, those who visit https://water.weather.gov will be redirected to NWPS ( water.noaa.gov) This redirect will continue through March 2025. Please visit water.noaa.gov to visit the new NWPS page which contains all of our hydrologic forecasts.
