Good afternoon, We are providing a final briefing on the ongoing winter storm. After a brief lull, widespread snowfall is expected to develop late this afternoon. The steadiest snowfall will occur between 6 PM and midnight, tapering off from west to east thereafter. Snowfall rates may reach 1/2 inch per hour at times between 6 PM and 2 AM. Good morning everyone... Winter Weather Advisories have been expanded to all southern New England (except Nantucket) and snowfall amounts have been increased. Total snow accumulations of 2-5" are expected for western MA and CT with 3 to 6" across eastern MA/RI with localized 7" amounts possible. Rain mixed with the snow at times may cut down on totals across portions of Cape Cod and especially Nantucket where much of this may fall as rain. Periods of mainly light snow develop this morning and continue at times this afternoon...but a lull in the activity is possible especially north of I-90. The steadiest/heaviest of the snow is expected late this afternoon and especially tonight. Snowfall rates of 1"+ per hour are possible in the 5 pm to 1 am time frame...particularly across eastern MA/RI. While the steady snow will be over by daybreak Monday...some snow showers may linger into the Monday morning commute especially across eastern MA. The biggest uncertainty with this forecast revolves around whether or not we see a heavier swath of 5-7" of snow and where exactly that sets up. Right now we would favor eastern MA/RI as the best chance for that to occur. We have included an updated one-pager along with our snowfall graphic/timeline. In addition...we also have included a probability table for specific locations in our region to see snowfall rates approach 1" per hour. This is just meant to give an idea of when the heaviest snowfall rates/impacts will occur and you can see how this indicates from 5 pm through 1 am Monday. Lastly...there is a lot of black ice out there this morning so that may be an issue for folks trying to get out before the snow actually starts! Thank You! Good afternoon, We are providing an update on the ongoing snowfall across southern New England. Snow is expected to end over the next few hours, with conditions improving from west to east between 4 PM and 7 PM. Consequently, Winter Weather Advisories for portions of central and western Massachusetts will expire this evening. While there will be a lull in activity tonight, a new Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and all of Connecticut for Sunday into Sunday night. Attached is our updated one-pager briefing for this upcoming coastal storm. Snow is anticipated to begin Sunday morning into the afternoon, with the steadiest and most impactful accumulation occurring late Sunday afternoon and evening, particularly across southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Precipitation should end after midnight. Expected Snowfall Totals: - 3–5" (Localized amounts of 6"): Southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island. - 2–4": Northern Connecticut through central and northeast Massachusetts. - 1–2": Northwest Massachusetts. Good morning everyone... A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through this afternoon for portions of north central and western Massachusetts...mainly the higher terrain. We still expect 2–4 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts up to 5 inches across the Berkshires through this afternoon. Snow was already impacting the region early this morning. We do expect a lull in the activity by mid to late morning with another round of snow by afternoon before winding down by early evening. We have attached our latest snowfall forecast through this afternoon. In addition...we have sent a new one-pager for the expected snow Sunday into Sunday night. Areas of light snow may develop Sunday morning into Sunday afternoon. We are currently thinking that the steadiest snow will be later Sunday afternoon and evening...especially across eastern MA and RI. We expect most of the travel impacts to occur late Sunday afternoon and night when the steadiest snow arrives and temperatures fall below freezing. Our preliminary snowfall forecast for Sunday into Sunday night is for an inch or two of snow possible across the interior with 2-4" possible across parts of eastern MA and RI. These amounts may need to be adjusted as a small shift in the track will make a difference in the outcome. If the track ends up on the northwest edge of the guidance...2-4" of snow would be possible across much of the interior with a swath of 3-6" across parts of RI/SE MA. If the track were to end up on the southeast edge of the guidance...snow accumulations would be a coating to 2 inches mainly confined to Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. Good afternoon, Attached is our one-pager briefing regarding the incoming snow for tonight through Saturday afternoon. We want to reiterate that this is primarily an interior northern and western Massachusetts event. You will also find a snowfall map and our current winter weather headlines. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 AM to 7 PM Saturday for portions of central and western Massachusetts, where our confidence in snowfall is greatest. We expect widespread accumulations of 2–4 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 6 inches across the Berkshires. We are confident there will be no impacts for eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as temperatures will remain warm enough for rain only. We continue to monitor a secondary, quick-hitting system for Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Good morning everyone... Attached is a brief one-pager on the expected snow very late tonight into Saturday across western/central Massachusetts as well as portions of northern Connecticut. The snow will arrive between 1 and 5 am Saturday with a possible lull in the activity by mid to late Saturday morning. Another round of snow is expected Saturday afternoon, but the main impacts by then will probably be confined to the high terrain given temperatures rising above freezing in the lower elevations. Total snow accumulations of 1-2" are expected across the lower elevations of western/central MA as well as portions of northern CT with 2-4" of snow possible in the higher terrain of the Berkshires and northern Worcester Hills. A Winter Weather Advisory may be needed for parts of the interior high terrain. Meanwhile...no impacts are expected across eastern MA and RI on Saturday as temperatures will rise well above freezing by the time any precipitation arrives. Also...we continue to monitor the potential for a plowable snowfall to parts of our region Sunday into Sunday night but there remains an unusually large spread in potential outcomes for this time range. A westward track would bring the potential for a plowable snowfall as far west as interior Massachusetts and Connecticut. While an eastern solution would bring little if any snowfall even into the Boston to Providence corridor. *We do think we will have a much better idea on this in the next 12 to 24 hours. * Attached is our brief one-pager and our snowfall graphic for the first event very late tonight into Saturday. Good afternoon, Attached is an updated one-pager for the threat for freezing rain this afternoon into Sunday morning. There was no change in the Winter Weather Advisory headlines. We are still anticipating light freezing rain across the interior high terrain with potential ice accumulations of 0.1-0.2 inches in the berkshires, and a trace to 0.1 inches in northern Worcester County. We are still expecting gusty WNW winds to develop Sunday night into Monday morning with frequent gusts of 35-45mph and a few gusts up to 50mph possible in Berkshires. Good morning, Attached is a one-pager outlining the threat for freezing rain Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning. Portions of north-central and western Massachusetts are under a Winter Weather Advisory due to the potential for freezing rain and ice accumulations. While not directly tied to this event, strong west-northwest winds may develop Sunday night into Monday morning, with the potential for gusts between 40–50 mph.
