Hi everyone, (Attached are the new graphics). Here is a quick update on the storm system affecting us tonight and New Years Day. Not much has changed from the previous thinking. Rain has begun in southwest CT already and it will overspread the region tonight ' with a widespread inch or so of rain expected. Expecting it to start as a brief period of mixed snow or freezing rain in the east slopes of the Berkshires and northern Worcester hills before becoming all rain after about midnight. Temperatures as of 5 PM were in the mid 30s in those areas. A few slick spots are possible, but only a trace to a few hundredths of an inch of glaze are forecast, along with a coating to less than an inch of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for those areas. Much more importantly, strong to damaging winds are forecast for New Years Day across the entire area. West winds will gust to 40-60 mph across the region. If we had to pinpoint the potential strongest areas, it would be from Worcester County into northeast MA, where we have upgraded to a High Wind Warning. All other areas are in a Wind Advisory. NWS Boston Weather Briefing #2: Wintry Mix and Strong Winds

Good Morning Everyone, We are monitoring the potential for minor accumulations of snow and ice tonight across interior sections of Massachusetts and for the possibility of damaging winds Tuesday (New Year's Day). A few graphics are attached. *Wintry Weather Tonight: High Confidence* - Snow begins between 5 and 8 PM in western and northern Massachusetts before changing to rain between 12 and 2 AM and ending overnight. - Most locations should receive a slushy inch or two of accumulation. - Light icing is possible across the higher elevations where some freezing rain may occur for a short time during the transition from snow to rain. - *Winter Weather Advisories* remain in effect for these locations due to slippery travel conditions. *Strong and Possibly Damaging Winds Tuesday: High Confidence* - West winds gusting to between 40 and 60 MPH are expected Tuesday, with the strongest gusts in Massachusetts where damaging winds are most likely. - *High Wind Watches *have been issued for these areas of Massachusetts for the potential of downed trees, large branches, and wires. - *Wind Advisories* have been issued for northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeast Massachusetts (including Cape Cod and the Islands). Wind damage is also possible in these areas but is expected to be more sporadic in nature. The next update will be sent later this afternoon. Hello, A storm moving up through the Midwest and St Lawrence Valley will bring rain to Southern New England from Monday late-afternoon through Tuesday morning. Cold air at the start of the storm may cause areas of snow, freezing rain, and sleet during Monday night. Rising temperatures overnight will change all precipitation to rain. Most at risk : East Slopes of the Berkshires, Worcester Hills. Also of concern : Northern Connecticut, Northern Rhode Island, Northeast Massachusetts. Starting time : Monday around 4 PM in the west, 5 PM Central Hills, 6-7 PM in the east. Concerns : Plan on slippery road and walkway conditions during the Monday night celebrations. [2018.12.27 PM NWS Briefing] A Glaze of Ice Forecast for the Friday AM Commute

Good afternoon, A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is still expected early Friday morning, roughly as early as 3 am to as late as 9 am. Biggest concern focuses on the forecast glaze of ice for the Friday AM commute, especially across the Berkshires and Worcester Hills. Surfaces becoming slick, in addition to reduced visibility, will result in hazardous travel conditions. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES continue across interior portions of MA / CT / RI. On the waters, GALE WATCHES have been converted to GALE WARNINGS. Further details are provided within the attached images below. *Note, start time and end time images are for any wintry weather. In some cases, the wintry weather elements only last an hour or two. The Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded to include northern Connecticut, central/eastern Massachusetts, and northern Rhode Island. Good afternoon, We continue to forecast a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain for Friday morning. With the threat of freezing rain, WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES have been posted for northern and western portions of Massachusetts, mainly focused on the Berkshires and Worcester Hills where we have the highest confidence of ice accretion. Further details below. *What / Where / When ... * - A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is forecast Friday morning, roughly 4 am to 10 am, before transitioning to all rain - Mainly across northern and western portions of Massachusetts - Especially at higher elevations of the Berkshires and Worcester Hills - A coating upwards of around an inch of snow and/or sleet, along with a glaze of ice is forecast - Expected impacts to the AM commute as surfaces will become slick and there will be reductions in visibility leading to hazardous travel conditions - Again, Winter Weather Advisories posted, mainly focused on the Berkshires and Worcester Hills. These may need to be adjusted with later forecasts as we continue to iron out the freezing rain threat. - Though not entirely confident, the associated storm system delivering wintry weather impacts as outlined above will also bring a decent slug of rain along with some gusty winds for S/SE portions of New England - Rainfall amounts up to around an inch, there is the localized possibility of some nuisance flooding with poor drainage issues, ponding of water along area roadways - Potential gusts up around 40 mph, can't rule out some isolated wind damage. Main focus is along the immediate S/SE coastline of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Biggest concern is with regards to any holiday decorations becoming airborne. Normally the magnitude of the upcoming event wouldn't warrant an email, but since it's Christmas Eve and there's a bunch of traveling going on, thought we'd send a heads-up. A weak storm will pass well to our south early Monday. Light snow is expected to accumulate up to 1 to 1.5 inches in a portion of northern CT and in the slopes of the Berkshires beginning around 4 AM and lasting into the mid-morning Monday. Some light snow could also spread across the remainder of the region around daybreak, but it will taper off during the morning with little accumulation in RI, eastern MA, or northeastern MA. Temperatures will climb to the mid/upper 30s Monday, melting most or all of the snow. Another strong upper level disturbance will cause a chance of light snow or snow showers, mainly in northeastern and eastern MA, early Monday evening. Another dusting to less than an inch is possible there. Clearing after midnight. Much ado about a dusting to up to 1.5 or 2 inches of snow in a few spots.
