The only changes were to expand the High Wind Warning into interior southeast MA and central RI including the Greater Providence area. Also, the coastal flood advisory for the south coast of MA/RI may have to be extended into Saturday for the morning high tide. Good morning everyone, Included with this email is the latest, and possibly final briefing update for the storm expected today into this evening. Overall, the forecast remains similar regarding the expectation of heavy rain and coastal flooding. At this time, it looks like the best chance for final rainfall totals exceeding 3 inches is across W MA and CT. We have expanded the High Wind Warning and Wind Advisories further west. The High Wind Warning (risk for 50-60 mph gusts) now includes south coastal Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The Wind Advisory now includes northeastern Connecticut, northwestern Rhode Island and central-eastern portions of Massachusetts that were not included with last evening's update. The primary heavy rain for western areas will be through the afternoon, then this afternoon and evening further east. The strongest winds are expected from about mid morning into the evening, with a peak during the evening hours. The risk for south coastal flooding will occur with this evenings high tide. NWS Boston/Norton PM Storm Briefing

Good afternoon everyone, The latest briefing for the upcoming storm is attached. *Changes:* - High Wind Warnings has been issued for Cape Cod and the Islands, and Wind Advisories are being issued for much of Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts. - Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for south coastal Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the Friday evening high tide. - Storm Warnings have been issued for most of the Massachusetts coastal waters. - The heaviest rainfall, 2 to 3 inches on average with locally as much as 4 inches, is now expected across western and central Massachusetts and northern Connecticut. This is where the highest risk of minor river flooding exists. Some of the smaller rivers in these areas could reach moderate flooding, but that is highly dependent on how much rain falls. Confidence remains high in expected impacts from heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding, starting late tonight and lasting into Friday night. Keep in mind flooding on main stem rivers may not occur until this weekend, especially on the Connecticut River. [2018.12.20 AM NWS Briefing] Multi Faceted Storm Begins Late Tonight

Good morning everyone, We continue to monitor a developing storm system which will begin to impact the region late tonight. The primary issues continue to be heavy rainfall, strong winds and a risk for minor coastal flooding, especially along the south coast. Rain will overspread the region late tonight, and winds will begin to increase. Rain and modest wind gusts will impact the morning commute Friday. The strongest winds and heaviest rainfall is expected during the day Friday and into Friday evening, impacting the evening commute. As for the coastal flood risk, the astronomical tide is highest early Friday morning, however winds and surge will be limited. The late afternoon/evening tide is lower, but surge, seas and winds will be stronger by that point. Strong storm system late Thursday night into Friday night

Hi everyone, Here is the latest information for the upcoming storm. 1) A Flood Watch has been issued for all of southern New England from late Thursday night through late Friday night. Rain starts late Thursday night but the heaviest rain will occur during the day Friday and into Friday night. We are expecting a widespread 2 to 3 inches of rain except 1 to 2 inches on Cape Cod and the islands. There could be up to 4 inches in portions of western MA, northern CT, and western RI. Currently 1 to 2 inches is forecast for Cape Cod and the Islands. Urban and poor drainage flooding is expected. Small streams and creeks could also flood. There is a possibility that a few main stem rivers could rise to minor to perhaps moderate levels. 2) A High Wind Watch has been issued for Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Block Island from Friday morning through Friday evening. Southeast to south winds of 25-35 mph are forecast with gusts to 50 mph. However, the potential exists for gusts up to 60 mph. The latest indications are that the strongest winds may occur a bit later, perhaps in the late afternoon through midnight Friday night. Wind Advisories will likely be needed farther inland into the coastal plain and possibly atop higher elevation locations. 3) Gale Watches have been upgraded to Gale Warnings for all coastal waters from early Friday morning through much of Friday night for wind gusts to 45 knots. 4) Coastal Flooding: The south coast continues to be the main focus for possible minor coastal flooding on Friday, although with astronomically high tides we may also see at least some splashover but possibly minor coastal flooding along the eastern MA coast, too. A surge of up to 2 feet is expected. We could see minor coastal flood impacts along the south coast from Narragansett Bay to Buzzards Bay -- possibly along the rest of the south coast due to wave action. With only 1 foot of surge, the more vulnerable locations on the Massachusetts east coast, like Morrissey Blvd., could be flooded during the Friday and Saturday morning high tides. 5) Severe weather potential: A few thunderstorms are possible in RI and southeastern MA. Conditions will be quite anomalous with 60-80 knots of wind just a few thousand feet off the surface, with record high dewpoints near 60 degrees and actual temperatures reaching the lower 60s in those areas. Certain other parameters are in place to make us concerned for the possibility of an isolated waterspout or tornado in RI or southeast MA. It is a quite low probability but if it were to occur, the most likely time would be Friday afternoon. Good morning everyone, No significant changes to the forecast for late Thursday night into Friday. Heavy rain, strong winds and a risk for coastal flooding remain the primary concerns. At this time, only a Gale Watch for the waters has been issued beginning early Friday morning, however it is possible more headlines will be issued. *What / Where / When ...* - Heavy rainfall across all Southern New England - Rain starts late Thursday night, with heaviest rainfall expected early Friday into Friday afternoon, possibly lingering into Friday evening. - Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. - Heavy rainfall will likely result in urban and poor drainage flooding, along with some river flooding as well. Moderate river flooding is possible if rainfall approaches 3 inches. - Strong southerly winds - The greatest risk for strong to damaging winds will be across SE New Eng, particularly RI and southeast MA and Cape/Islands during the daylight hours Friday, possibly into Friday evening. - Potential for wind gusts over 50 mph. - If strong winds are realized, tree damage and isolated to scattered power outages will be possible. - Minor coastal flooding along the south coast - Mainly during the early Friday evening high tide. - Storm surge around 2 ft possible with 12+ foot seas just offshore. - Minor flooding possible along the shores of Narragansett Bay and Buzzards Bay, as well as splashover and minor flooding along ocean exposed south coastal beaches. *Uncertainty ...* - Heavy rainfall: High confidence that heavy rainfall will occur, but there is uncertainty with respect to where the axis of heavy rainfall will set up and timing of the heaviest rainfall. - Strong winds: Uncertainty in the strength of the winds along the south coast and extent of any wind damage, and also the timing of the strongest winds. - Coastal flooding: There is uncertainty if there will be enough storm surge during the Friday evening high tide to produce minor flooding. Good afternoon everyone, Winter Weather Headlines remain posted for western-central Massachusetts this evening and overnight. Here are the details ... *What / Where / When ...* - *What* - rain changing to sleet/ice pellets then all snow - *Where* - western & central Massachusetts (east slopes of the Berkshires into the Worcester Hills) - *When* - this evening and overnight - *Headlines* - Winter Weather Advisories remain posted for western-central MA - *Impacts* - slippery snow covered roads especially at elevations above 1000 ft. Heaviest precipitation occurs from approximately 6 pm this evening to 2 am then diminishing thereafter with just light snow expected during the Monday morning rush hour. No impacts other than wet roads expected from Boston to Providence to Hartford. - *Uncertainty* - there is some uncertainty how quickly rain will change over to sleet then snow this evening along with how quickly will snow begin to accumulate on paved surfaces. Given the lack of cold air currently across the region combined with a slow transition expected from rain to sleet to snow our snowfall accumulations are only a coating to 2 inches with highest amounts above 1000 ft. However if the changeover to snow occurs more rapidly then more snow is possible (worst case scenario - 90 percentile forecast) with 2 to 5 inches a low probability from the east slopes of the Berkshires into the Worcester Hills. Good morning, We continue to forecast a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain across northern and western portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut for today into this evening, transitioning to mainly snow this evening, concluding into Monday morning. Winter Weather Advisories continue accordingly for the threat of ice accretion associated with freezing rain. *What / Where / When ...* - Wintry mix of sleet and / or freezing rain across northern and western portions of MA and CT - Low risk this morning across CT. - Main rain during the day across southern New England, transitioning to a wintry mix late this afternoon and evening across the higher terrain - Minor sleet/snow accumulations of a coating up to 2 inches are forecast, as well as ice accretion of a trace up to around 0.10" in spots - Greatest travel impacts will be potentially slick roadways and perhaps lower visibility across the high terrain, especially at elevations above 1000 feet - Sleet, freezing rain, even some locations observing rain change to snow this evening into Monday morning - Northern and western portions of MA & CT, possibly as far SE as the N&W I-495 beltway & I-84 corridor including NW RI - Mainly for higher elevations with temperatures at or below freezing, will see accumulations of a coating up to around an inch with the greatest travel impact - At lower elevations, not expecting much if any snow accumulations as roads will remain wet - With any snow, anticipate reductions in visibility *Uncertainty ... * Given a mixed precipitation event, there remains uncertainty with respect to precip-types at specific times over particular areas, as well as associated outcomes and impacts.
