NWS Boston: Tuesday Afternoon Briefing for Tropical Storm Elsa

All, Attached is our initial briefing on Tropical Storm Elsa. Primary concerns from the storm are the potential for some heavy rain north of where it tracks, rough marine conditions, and an increase in surf and rip currents along south coastal areas. At this point we continue to monitor its progress and updated forecasts issued by the National Hurricane Center (which come out at 5am, 11am, 5pm and 11pm daily). Good morning, Attached is our updated briefing regarding the severe weather potential in southern New England this afternoon and evening. There have been no significant changes in the latest update with regards to severe weather. However, we have issued a Heat Advisory for much of the region away from the south coast for today and Wednesday as heat indices are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s. This is anticipated to be the last briefing for this event, unless there are significant changes to the forecast. Severe Weather Update & Low risk of isolated flooding Thu/Thu night

All, A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of MA, RI and CT until 10 pm EDT Wednesday. Scattered severe thunderstorms are likely with damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. Storms will be most numerous across northern Massachusetts (including the Greater Boston area) and adjacent sections of CT & RI. Storms will be less numerous southward toward the coast and Islands, including Cape Cod. Isolated up to quarter size hail is also possible. Tomorrow (Thursday) into tomorrow night, weather concerns shift toward heavy rain with a localized flood threat mainly across CT, RI and south of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Also, isolated severe thunderstorms with winds in excess of 60 mph are possible.
