Good morning. Expect dry conditions today and tonight across the region. Small Craft Advisories are in effect today, but will end as winds diminish during the day. *Accumulating snow to a Wintry Mix Late Tonight through Tuesday evening* *Headlines*: *Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for late Tonight through Tuesday for areas away from Cape Cod and the islands.* The next winter weather event is fast approaching. Low pressure will move across the mid Atlantic region today, then off the coast tonight. Moisture from this low will shift northeast, moving into northern Connecticut, most of Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts by around 3 to 4 AM Tuesday, then spread northward through mid morning across the remainder of the region. Will see the snow change to a wintry mix mainly near and south of the Mass Pike by around 9 AM. The mix will change to rain along the coastline by midday, while the mixed precipitation will continue to push further inland through the afternoon. As low pressure passes across the southern waters, the wintry mix will change back to snow Tuesday afternoon before tapering off Tuesday night. This morning's snowfall and ice accumulation maps are attached, as well as the forecast onset of the precipitation early Tuesday morning. Forecasted snowfall of 1 to 3 inches of snow/sleet south of the Mass Pike into NE CT, RI and SE Mass, while with 3 to 5 inches is forecast as mainly snow north of the Pike to near north central CT. There is a *low risk* for up to 6 inches near the NH border from N of Fitchburg to Greenfield. Freezing rain of up to one-tenth inch is expected across RI, northern CT, and interior MA south of the Mass Pike. A few spots of 0.10 to 0.25 inches of ice are possible, especially in northern CT and NW RI. *Confidence*: *High*. There will be light snow across most areas by around 3 to 4 AM, then will become steadier and heavier by mid morning. There is still some uncertainty as to the exact timing of the changing precipitation type during the morning, which will affect the ice and snow accumulations especially near and north of the Mass Pike. *Arctic Blast moving in Wednesday night and Thursday* *Potential for:* *Wind Chill Headlines* *late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning*. Wind chill values of -10 to -20 degrees by early Thursday morning A strong Arctic cold front will swing across the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing increasing NW winds along with dropping temperatures. Expect temperatures to bottom out in the single digits across central and western areas by around 6 AM Thursday morning, ranging to the teens to around 20 across the coastal plain. With the strong winds, with gusts upwards to 25 to 40 mph, will see wind chill indices as low as *-10 to -20 degrees* across portions of central and western Massachusetts, especially across the higher terrain, ranging to around zero to near 10 below elsewhere. *Confidence*: *Moderate to High*. The lowest wind chill values will occur from *3 to 4 AM through 9 to 10 AM*, longest across central and western Massachusetts. Highs on Thursday will only reach from 15 to 25 degrees, except the upper 20s along the immediate south coast, but wind chill values will remain low, mainly from *zero to 10 above*. Good evening, Winds will be gradually diminishing tonight. Wind Advisories will expire between 7 PM and 9 PM this evening and Gale Warnings will be lowered before daybreak. Attention will then turn to the next winter weather event, which will be arriving Monday night and continuing on Tuesday. *Accumulating Snow to Wintry Mix: Monday Night and Tuesday* We now have high confidence in a period of wintry weather for Monday night and Tuesday. We are expecting snow to develop across the entire region, except for a mix of rain, sleet and snow along the immediate south coast Monday evening between 8 PM and 11 PM. The snow is forecast to change to sleet and freezing rain over interior sections mainly south of the Mass Pike overnight. A band of moderate to heavy snow could develop from Springfield to Worcester, northward to the NH border, mainly between 4 AM and 10 AM Tuesday morning. Thus, the Tuesday morning commute does look like it will be adversely impacted by a mix of wintry weather, ranging from snow to ice. The Boston area southward to the Cape/Islands, as well as most of RI, will likely be all rain by early Tuesday morning. Current snowfall and ice accumulation maps are attached. We are forecasting 1 to 3 inches of snow/sleet south of the Mass Pike with 3 to 5 inches of mainly snow north of the Pike, with 6 inches possible near the NH border. Freezing rain of up to one-tenth inch is expected in RI, northern CT, and interior MA south of the Mass Pike, but a few spots of 0.10 to 0.25 inches of ice are possible, especially in northern CT and northern RI. *Confidence:* Remains moderate to high on wintry weather impacting the Tuesday morning commute. There is the potential for steadier bands of snow that may produce snow rates at or an inch per hour or a bit higher into early Tuesday morning, especially north of the Mass Pike. *Arctic Blast Wednesday night and Thursday* A major Arctic cold front will blast through the region Wednesday evening, accompanied by brief wind gusts that could reach Wind Advisory criteria (40 to 50 mph), possible snow squalls, and then frigid temperatures. Lows will range from 0 far northwest MA to the teens in southeast MA and southern RI. Wind Chill Advisories may be needed for western and central MA, where wind chills of -10 to -20 degrees are forecast. Gales are quite likely over the coastal waters. In Effect from 1 AM to 9 PM Sunday. - Updated snow and ice accumulations for Monday Night into Tuesday. *River Rises, Strong Winds and Rough Seas: Tonight through Sunday* *River Rises/Minor Flooding:* *Locations*: Mainly the Pawcatuck River at Westerly and Wood River Junction, Pawtucket River at Cranston, Wood River at Hope Valley, the Willimantic River at Coventry and the Taunton River at Bridgewater. *Timing*: Through Sunday afternoon. *Impact*: Rivers rising to near or over minor flood stage. Receding trends through Sunday afternoon. *Confidence*: Moderate to High. *Strong Winds:* *Locations*: Most of MA except Bristol County, and for Block Island in RI. *Timing*: Overnight into Sunday. There is increased confidence that Monday overnight into the Tuesday AM commute will be impacted by snow and/or ice-covered roads with potential for travel difficulties. Initial snow to change to mixed precipitation across interior MA, northern CT into RI overnight into Tuesday. While most of the interior will stay wintry, a shorter period of snow and/or mixed precipitation is currently anticipated for E and SE MA into coastal RI, with an earlier transition to rain as temperatures warm above freezing sooner. *Confidence:* Moderate to high on wintry weather impacting the Tuesday AM commute, though only moderate confidence in snow and ice accumulations. Precipitation type changeovers and timing the changeovers remains uncertain and could alter snow and/or ice accumulations. Steadier bands of snow with snow rates at or over an inch per hour could result overnight into early Tuesday AM, though it is not clear where these bands may set up. Good evening everyone We just wanted to let you know that the Flood Watch has been expanded into portions of western MA and parts of northern CT. Widespread 1.50 to 2.50 inches of rain with localized 3 to 3.50 inches are possible overnight into Saturday. If the higher amounts are realized, the potential exists for some river/stream flooding as well as urban flooding. Also, the Wind Advisory has been extended a bit further northwest into portions of southeast MA for southerly 40 to 55 mph wind gusts on Saturday. Good afternoon, Heavy rainfall is still forecast to impact the region late tonight through Saturday. A Flood Watch is in effect for central and eastern areas where the heaviest rainfall is expected. There is cold air in place across the higher inland terrain as well as the Connecticut Valley, so we could see the precipitation start as light freezing rain and/or drizzle, which may cause a thin glaze of ice on untreated roads during this evening's commute. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for these areas till 10pm. Gusty winds will move in across the region Saturday, strongest across Cape Cod and the islands. Details below: *Interior Light Icing:* *Locations*: Across the east slopes of the Berkshires and the Connecticut River Valley in Massachusetts. *Timing:* May see freezing drizzle and/or light freezing rain develop as the precipitation starts late this afternoon. Temperatures will slowly rise tonight, so should see the changeover to rain by midnight. *Amounts*: Trace amounts to a couple hundredths of an inch resulting in a light, thin glaze of ice. *Impact*: Slick roads impacting travel during the evening commute through about midnight. *Confidence:* Low.
