Good morning! We wanted to give you all a heads up about some strong southwest winds expected from early afternoon till early evening today. Cape Cod and the Islands could experience wind gusts ranging between 30 to 40 mph. The exception is Nantucket, where wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph. The island of Nantucket is under a Wind Advisory from 1 pm to 10 pm. We've attached an image showing the maximum wind gusts expected across southern New England for your reference. Good afternoon, The Wind Advisory has been expanded to include northern CT and further east into Massachusetts to include the I-495 corridor. Winds in excess of 45-55mph are possible in the advisory area. Even outside the advisory, winds could still gust 35-45mph. A minor clipper system is still expected to bring a quick hit of snow tonight. Snow should start between 6-8pm in the west, then 9-11pm in the east before ending by 2 am. Accumulations of a coating to 3" with localized 4" north of the MA Pike are expected. This will be the last briefing for this event. Good morning, We are writing to inform you that a *Wind Advisory* has been issued for much of central and western Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands (Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Block Island). This advisory is effective from late Thursday night through early Friday afternoon. Please be aware that if confidence in the forecast continues to increase, the advisory area could expand during the next forecast issuance. The primary concern is strong westerly gusts 50 to 55 mph. In addition, overnight, a minor clipper system is expected to bring a quick hit of snow. Accumulations ranging from a light dusting to 3 inches are possible, with certain areas in the Berkshires potentially seeing localized amounts reaching 4 inches.For further details, please refer to the attached image. Good morning, The latest forecast guidance overnight has once again shifted the system further south, prompting adjustments to our expected snowfall amounts. Notably, we have revised down our projections, particularly north of Massachusetts Turnpike. The areas most likely to receive 6 inches or more of snowfall remain southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the coastal areas of Connecticut. Heavy snowfall rates are still possible, potentially exceeding 1-2 inches per hour, primarily across southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island between 9 am and 3 pm. We will diligently monitor any further developments throughout the morning and adjust the forecast accordingly. This will serve as our final briefing; however, should there be any significant changes going forward, we will issue a follow-up email promptly. Thank you for your attention to this update. Good Afternoon All, We appreciate your patience as we worked to get the newest information incorporated into our forecast. There has been a rather significant shift in the axis of heaviest snow southward with accumulations of 6"+ suppressed south of the I-90 corridor. Heavy snowfall rates in excess of 2"+ per hour are still possible across SE MA and RI between 9 am and 3pm tomorrow. Travel impacts are expected to be significantly less north of the Mass Pike. We will continue to monitor trends this evening and overnight and will make adjustments to the forecast as needed. Another briefing will be provided by 6 AM Tuesday morning. Good morning, Attached is an updated briefing package for the Winter Storm to impact the region Tuesday. Since our briefing Sunday afternoon, here is what has changed - - Axis of heaviest snow has shifted southward into CT, RI and along/south of the Mass Pike, including the Greater Boston area - Arrival of snow is slightly slower/later, between 4 AM and 8 AM Tuesday - Winter Storm Watches for southern RI and southeast MA have been upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings for increased confidence in 6+ inches of snowfall - High Wind Watches for Cape Cod and the islands have been upgraded to High Wind Warnings for increased confidence in wind gusts up to 60 mph - Coastal Flood Watches from Boston southward to Cape Cod and the islands have been upgraded to Coastal Flood Warnings for increased confidence in moderate coastal flooding This will be a short duration but high impact winter storm Tuesday, with the heaviest snowfall approximately from 9 AM to 3 PM, except 12 PM to 5 PM across Cape Cod. Additional details can be found in the attached briefing package. We will provide an updated briefing package no later than 6 PM Monday. We've also attached a model simulation of the hourly snowfall rates. These aren't expected to be exact, but should give a rough idea of overall timing and impacts. Since our last briefing, confidence has increased that portions of southern New England will experience an impactful winter storm late Monday night into Tuesday.
