Good afternoon everyone... Spotty areas of freezing drizzle/black ice will be possible in the Worcester Hills into northeast Massachusetts, including the north shore this evening, with temps near or just below 32 degrees. Otherwise...listed below are the updates to the Wednesday and Wednesday night portion of the forecast in regards to heavy rain/flooding potential and strong to damaging wind gusts. We have also included the updated one-pager as well as some graphical images. 1) High Wind Watch has been upgraded to a High Wind Warning, given increased forecast confidence for strong to damaging winds across eastern MA & and southern RI Wed into Wed night, for southerly wind gusts of 50-60 mph likely. Forecast uncertainty includes, will these strong winds occur farther inland, northwest of the I-95 corridor? Later shifts will have to evaluate if the High Wind Warning needs to be expanded into northwest RI, the I-495 corridor of eastern MA, including metro west Boston. For the remainder of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, a wind advisory has been posted for southerly winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph at times Wednesday and Wednesday night. 2) Flood Watch continues for western MA and parts of northern CT. Widespread 2-3" or rain with localized 4" amounts possible. Some Mainstem River Flooding and localized urban flooding is possible, with heavy rain at times for both AM and PM Wednesday commutes. Good afternoon everyone, There are no changes to the forecast regarding the potential for light icing across the higher elevations of the northern Berkshires and Worcester Hills. There may be pockets of light freezing rain and/or freezing drizzle this evening through Tuesday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory continues into Tuesday morning. In addition, an impactful storm will bring heavy rain and strong coastal winds to southern New England Wednesday into Wednesday night. The heavy rain may result in localized urban and poor drainage street flooding and strong winds may cause some power outages near the coast. Good morning everyone, Here is the final update for this storm system. We've attached a map showing the expected storm total snowfall with increased amounts over SE MA and central RI where snow has overcome marginal temperatures to accumulate early this morning. Confidence in snow amounts over the coastal plain is low to moderate as temperatures should be rising through the morning, but amounts up to an additional inch or so are most likely. Good afternoon, Attached are our latest one-page briefing, snowfall map, and updated headlines for the upcoming clipper system. Overall, the forecast remains consistent with only minor adjustments. We are expecting widespread snowfall amounts of 2–6 inches across western and central Massachusetts and the northern hills of Tolland and Litchfield Counties, while areas along and southeast of the I-95 corridor should remain all rain. A key forecast challenge remains determining whether rain transitions to snow northwest the I-95 corridor during the Thursday morning commute. Since this morning, we have expanded the Winter Weather Advisory into parts of Connecticut to include Tolland and Litchfield Counties, aligning with advisories issued by both our office and the Albany, NY office. Additionally, the Wind Advisory has been extended to cover all of northern Connecticut and western/central Massachusetts, primarily for the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday. As the widespread snowfall winds down mid-morning Thursday, our attention will shift to the potential for impactful snow squalls across interior southern New England leading to poor visibility and snow covered roads. Good afternoon, Here is an updated briefing on the upcoming clipper system which will bring accumulating snow to interior southern New England Wednesday night into Thursday morning. There are no changes to forecast thinking with 3-6 inches of snow expected over the higher elevations of the Berkshires and Worcester Hills, and 1-3 inches across the lower elevations in the interior. Mainly rain is expected along and south and east of the Boston to Providence corridor. A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of central and western MA for Wednesday night into Thursday morning. No impacts to the Wednesday evening commute are expected but the Thursday morning commute will be impacted, especially in the higher elevations. In addition, we expect strong southwest wind gusts developing Wednesday night over the Cape and Islands where wind advisories may be needed. Strong west wind gusts are expected to develop across all of southern New England Thursday afternoon and evening. Thanks.
