NWS Boston EM Briefing: Hurricane Lee

All, We are closely monitoring the forecasts of Hurricane Lee, just as you are. As a reminder, the official NWS forecasts for Lee are available at: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/#Lee The forecasters at the National Hurricane Center update the forecasts every 6 hours -- 5am, 11am, 5pm and 11pm. At this time, it is far too soon to accurately predict what kind of impacts that could occur in our area. We strongly encourage you to follow the forecasts, and keep up with the "Key Messages" that are updated with each new forecast and available via the NHC link above. I have attached the current Key Messages to this email. The one more certain aspect of the forecast is that large ocean swells will begin reaching our coastline early next week. That will result in heavy/rough surf, rip currents and perhaps spots of coastal erosion. We will start up email briefings twice daily if our area starts to fall under the "cone of forecast uncertainty", which could be early next week. [09.08.2023 AM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Heat & Humidity Along With Scattered Severe T-Storms Possible Across the Interior

Good morning everyone The main concern today is the potential for scattered severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. This threat is mainly along and northwest of a Hartford, to Worcester, to Lowell line between 2 and 10 pm this evening. Damaging straight line wind gusts are the main concern with heavy rain/street flooding and hail all secondary concerns. In addition...Heat Advisories have been expanded eastward across the eastern MA coast including Boston given offshore winds. Much of the region will see heat indices in the middle to upper 90s. Attached is the graphic indicating the severe weather potential this afternoon and evening. We have also included a map of the Heat Advisories and the expected Heat Indices. Good afternoon everyone, The only change with this forecast update is the risk for severe weather Friday is farther east into western portions of Massachusetts & Connecticut Friday afternoon & evening. The main threat would be isolated damaging wind gusts & locally heavy rain. Otherwise, Heat Advisories continue for most of the region away from the immediate coast Friday. Not quite as hot Friday, but nonetheless, high temperatures of 85-90 are expected along with heat indices from 95 to 100. Attached is a graphic indicating the main risk of severe weather and a map of the Heat Advisories along with the expected Heat Indices Friday.
