Good evening, Following is an update on river rises, strong winds and high seas through Sunday. However, we also want to provide a heads-up on another round of accumulating wintry weather for Monday night into Tuesday. *Changes with this update:* - *Wind Advisory issued:* Much of MA (except Bristol County) and Block Island. In Effect from 1 AM to 9 PM Sunday. - Updated snow and ice accumulations for Monday Night into Tuesday. *River Rises, Strong Winds and Rough Seas: Tonight through Sunday* *River Rises/Minor Flooding:* *Locations*: Mainly the Pawcatuck River at Westerly and Wood River Junction, Pawtucket River at Cranston, Wood River at Hope Valley, the Willimantic River at Coventry and the Taunton River at Bridgewater. *Timing*: Through Sunday afternoon. *Impact*: Rivers rising to near or over minor flood stage. Receding trends through Sunday afternoon. *Confidence*: Moderate to High. *Strong Winds:* *Locations*: Most of MA except Bristol County, and for Block Island in RI. *Timing*: Overnight into Sunday. Strongest winds Sunday late morning to afternoon. *Wind Speeds*: W to NW winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 45-50 mph. *Impact*: Gusty winds could blow unsecured objects around. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. *Confidence*: High. *High Seas: * *Locations*: Coastal waters from Provincetown to Chatham to Nantucket and out 20 nm, Coastal waters 25nm south of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. *Timing*: Through 7 PM Sunday. *Wave Heights*: 10 to 15 feet. *Impact*: Hazardous seas combined with strong winds could capsize or damage vessels. *Confidence*: High Attached supporting graphics include the active Wind and Marine Headlines in effect, as well as the maximum wind gust forecast in MPH. *Accumulating Snow to Wintry Mix: Monday Night into Tuesday* We are also monitoring a period of wintry weather for Monday night into Tuesday. There is increased confidence that Monday overnight into the Tuesday AM commute will be impacted by snow and/or ice-covered roads with potential for travel difficulties. Initial snow to change to mixed precipitation across interior MA, northern CT into RI overnight into Tuesday. While most of the interior will stay wintry, a shorter period of snow and/or mixed precipitation is currently anticipated for E and SE MA into coastal RI, with an earlier transition to rain as temperatures warm above freezing sooner. *Confidence:* Moderate to high on wintry weather impacting the Tuesday AM commute, though only moderate confidence in snow and ice accumulations. Precipitation type changeovers and timing the changeovers remains uncertain and could alter snow and/or ice accumulations. Steadier bands of snow with snow rates at or over an inch per hour could result overnight into early Tuesday AM, though it is not clear where these bands may set up. Attached are supporting graphics for this event, with updated snow and ice accumulation forecasts. A reasonable worst-case snowfall accumulation is also attached, which may materialize if heavier snow bands were to transpire and/or if less mixed wintry precip is expected. Good morning, A follow up to this morning's email to give an update on the latest weather hazards. *Changed:* Storm Warning cancelled for Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay. Gale Warning in effect now for all waters till 7pm tomorrow. High Wind Warning cancelled for Cape Cod and the Islands. Wind Advisory cancelled for Block Island, Southern Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts. Areal Flood Watch cancelled for most areas except for certain rivers. Detail below: *Rain/Flooding Threat* *Locations*: Particular rivers at risk include: Pawcatuck River at Westerly and Wood River Junction, Pawtuxet River at Cranston, Taunton River at Bridgewater, Wood River at Hope Valley, and Nashua River at East Pepperell. *Timing:* Now through tomorrow morning, heaviest this afternoon. *Amounts*: Additional 0.25 inches of precipitation across Western MA and northern CT. Additional 0.5 to 1 inch of rain for RI as well as central and eastern MA. *Impact*: Combination of snow melt and rainfall runoff may result in localized flooding. Wind Advisory upgraded to High Wind Warning for Cape Cod and the Islands. Good evening everyone We just wanted to let you know that the Flood Watch has been expanded into portions of western MA and parts of northern CT. Widespread 1.50 to 2.50 inches of rain with localized 3 to 3.50 inches are possible overnight into Saturday. If the higher amounts are realized, the potential exists for some river/stream flooding as well as urban flooding. Also, the Wind Advisory has been extended a bit further northwest into portions of southeast MA for southerly 40 to 55 mph wind gusts on Saturday. Good afternoon, Heavy rainfall is still forecast to impact the region late tonight through Saturday. A Flood Watch is in effect for central and eastern areas where the heaviest rainfall is expected. There is cold air in place across the higher inland terrain as well as the Connecticut Valley, so we could see the precipitation start as light freezing rain and/or drizzle, which may cause a thin glaze of ice on untreated roads during this evening's commute. Good afternoon, We are expecting a heavy rain event to impact the region late Friday night into Saturday. Precipitation might start off as a bit of freezing rain in the interior high elevations and parts of the CT River valley, but any icing impact will be transient as temperatures warm well above freezing overnight on Friday. *Interior Light Icing:* *Locations*: East slopes of the Berkshires and CT River valley in MA. *Timing:* Spotty freezing drizzle and/or very light freezing rain developing during precipitation onset. Changeover to rain by midnight. *Amounts*: Trace amounts to a couple hundredths of an inch resulting in a light, thin glaze of ice. *Impact*: Slick roads impacting Friday night's travel. *Confidence:* Low. Here is the latest for the snowfall we are expecting today. *Changes on this Update:* - *Added north central & NE Massachusetts as well as Martha's Vineyard to the Winter Weather Advisory* *What to Expect and When:* - Steady light to occasionally moderate snow will continue away from the S coast through mid morning across most of the region - Light rain along south coastal RI and Massachusetts will change over to snow by around 8 AM as the colder air works in - Pockets of moderate intensity snowfall remain possible across portions of eastern Mass, Rhode Island, NE Connecticut and toward the lower and mid Cape through this morning's commute with slick spots and snow covered roadways - The snow will taper off from N central to NW Massachusetts by mid to late morning, then will shift toward the south coast during this afternoon *Impacts*: - Expect slow travel on snow covered roads, especially across back roads and overpasses through this morning's commute *Accumulations*: - Should see 1 to 2 inches of snow across western Massachusetts before tapering off around mid morning - Snow up to 2 to 4 inches expected further east, from N CT and central Massachusetts east to the coast before tapering off late this morning through early afternoon Attached please find the forecast snow totals for this event.
