Good morning, Please see the attached slides summarizing the latest headlines and threats for Southern New England. *What / Where / When ... * - WIND ADVISORIES have been posted for all of Southern New England. - Tonight through Saturday afternoon. - Sustained westerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 50 mph. - Strongest wind gusts anticipated across the Berkshires, Worcester Hills, and along the eastern MA shoreline including adjacent waters. - Height of the strongest winds / wind gusts will be around Saturday morning. - Plan for scattered tree, tree limb, and / or power line damage. Subsequently there will be the potential for power outages. - GALE WARNINGS have been posted for all waters. - Gusts up to 50 kts with seas approaching 12 feet. - There is the addition threat of minor freezing spray developing short after midnight Saturday continuing as late as Sunday morning. Good afternoon everyone, Strong winds are expected to increase Friday miring and linger into the afternoon on Saturday. With recent rains/wet soils, the prolonged period of strong winds may exacerbate the risk for impacts. *What:* - W-NW Sustained winds 20-30 mph. - Wind gusts up to 40-50 mph at times. *When:* - Winds Friday 15-20 mph with gusts to around 40 mph at times. - The strongest winds mentioned above mainly Friday night into early Saturday.. *Where:* - All of Southern New England will likely experience these winds. *Impacts:* - Winds of this magnitude may lead to downed trees/limbs. - Some scattered power outages possible. Good afternoon, A wintry mix of freezing rain with isolated sleet mixed in will develop this evening between 5 and 9 pm, advancing from west to east. It will continue through Thursday morning before transitioning to drizzle by midday. *WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES* continue. Forecast ice amounts are attached. *Greatest concern * - Icing during the Thursday AM commute, especially across interior areas of Southern New England away from the immediate coast. - Untreated roads will become slick resulting in hazardous travel conditions. - Low risk of downed limbs due to the weight of ice with the potential for isolated power outages; best chance in the East Slopes of the Berkshires and the Worcester Hills. *Uncertainty * - Highest confidence is in western and central Massachusetts and icing potential is low for southern Rhode Island and southeast coastal Massachusetts. A mainly freezing rain event with some sleet mixed-in will develop around 6 to 9 pm this evening, west to east, continuing through Thursday morning before tapering off, transitioning to drizzle into midday Thursday.* WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES* continue. Forecast ice accretion amounts are attached. *Greatest concern ...* - Icing during the Thursday AM commute, especially across interior areas of Southern New England away from the immediate coast. - With any icing, untreated roads will become slick resulting in hazardous travel conditions. - In addition, there's a low risk of downed limbs due to the weight of ice with the potential for isolated power outages. *Uncertainty ... * - Still unclear as to the southern extent of freezing rain impacts. It is entirely possible that locations across southern Rhode Island and southeast coastal Massachusetts (southern Bristol and southern Plymouth Counties), including the upper Cape, could see a brief period of freezing rain this evening, before transitioning to rain around midnight. - Southern coastline communities mentioned above are encouraged to stay tuned to future forecasts which will be issued no later than 4 pm today. Good afternoon, everyone: We continue to monitor the potential for freezing rain and sleet late Wednesday into Thursday morning. The main area at risk for icing will be mainly away from the immediate coastline, although there will be some risk for icing near the coast, too. We will include a brief outline of expectations and also attach an image showing potential ice accretion amounts. *WHAT: * - Freezing rain. possibly mixed with sleet. *WHERE: * - Mainly northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor, and especially across the interior high terrain of Massachusetts. *WHEN: * - The threat for icing will be mainly Wednesday night into Thursday morning. While exact timing remains uncertain, it appears that the icing potential will occur after the Wednesday evening commute but may impact the Thursday morning rush hour. *IMPACTS:* - The main concern remains the potential for icy roads Wednesday night into Thursday morning, especially across the higher terrain of Massachusetts. *UNCERTAINTY: * - High confidence that a period of icing impacts the higher terrain of Massachusetts. - Greater uncertainty exists on whether a period of icing impacts the lower elevations near the Boston to Providence to Hartford corridor. - Ice accretion amounts are uncertain, but odds of exceeding one quarter of an inch anywhere in southern New England are low at this time. Good morning everyone. While the rain/snow is ending in time for the morning rush hour, untreated roads will be snow covered and slippery across interior southern New England. In addition, temperatures falling below freezing along the Boston to Providence corridor may result in some black ice for the morning commute. Otherwise, the main focus will be for high impact snow squalls late this afternoon and early this evening followed by bitterly cold wind chills. Will highlight the main concerns in the email and also attach a few images. *High Impact Snow Squalls Between 3 and 7 PM This Evening Along With Brief Strong To Perhaps Damaging Wind Gusts:* - Scattered to numerous snow squalls cross western MA/northern CT between 3 and 5 pm and eastern MA/RI between 5 and 7 pm this evening. - Brief very heavy snow, near white-out conditions and strong to perhaps damaging wind gusts anticipated. Very hazardous travel for parts of the evening rush hour. - Snow Squalls last less than 30 minutes in most locations but drop a quick coating to 1.5 inches of snow. Very localized 2-3" amounts can not be ruled out in the heaviest squalls. - Brief 40 to 60 mph wind gusts possible with the heaviest snow squalls. Localized tree damage/isolated power outages possible. - High Wind Warnings posted for the Cape/Nantucket with Wind Advisories for most other locations in southern New England. *Bitterly Cold Wind Chills Later Tonight into Thursday Morning:* - Wind chills drop to between 10 and 25 below zero late tonight into Thursday morning and near 30 below zero across the Berkshires. - Wind Chill Advisories posted along and northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor with Wind Chill Warnings in the Berkshires. *Marine Headlines:* - Gale and Storm Warnings hoisted for 40 to 50 knot wind gusts later today and especially this evening. - Moderate to heavy freezing spray expected later tonight into Thursday night. Bitter Arctic cold air follows Wednesday night into Thursday yielding a risk to health especially with prolonged outdoor exposure. If you have any additional questions, comments and/or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. *What / Where / When ...* - *Accumulating snow through early Wednesday morning.* - Main area of concern N&W of Hartford - Worcester - Bedford where it'll be all snow throughout. - Roughly 3 to 6 inches forecast, with locally higher amounts in the Berkshires. - Winter weather headlines continue through early morning Wednesday having been expanded into central Middlesex County MA. - In and around Hartford - Worcester - Bedford, beginning as snow mixing with rain - Roughly 2 to 4 inches is forecast. - S&E of Hartford - Worcester - Bedford, beginning as snow changing to rain - Roughly 1 to 2 inches is forecast, except for S&E MA and RI which will see a coating to 1 inch - *Impacts ... * - Snow covered highways expected if left untreated through this evenings commute, especially around the I-91 corridor. Hazardous travel conditions. - Mix to or change over to rain in and around Hartford - Worcester - Bedford and points S&E, there is the threat of a ice freezing along roadways as colder air builds into the region during the Wednesday AM commute. - *Snow squalls / strong to damaging winds gusts Wednesday afternoon into evening.* - For all of Southern New England roughly 3 pm to 7 pm Wednesday. - Squalls may contain heavy snow, strong to damaging winds with gusts exceeding 40 mph, and near white-out conditions. - *South coast New England, Cape & Islands* - Watching for a brief period of westerly 35 to 55 mph wind gusts Wednesday afternoon into evening. Gusts up to 60 mph possible. - High Wind Watch continues for Wednesday afternoon into evening. - *Impacts ...* - With snow squalls, possibility of brief near-zero visibility with pouring snow and blustery winds. A quick accumulating inch on any surfaces. Hazardous travel conditions for the Wednesday PM commute. - With winds, the threat of downed limbs, power lines.
